Ethischer Kodex für Blutspende und Bluttransfusion
Zusammenfassung
The blood donation is a traditional task of the Red Cross, which has been performed by the national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in co-operation with their respective national governments all over the world already since the twenties. Apart from the fi rst aid the blood donation is worldwide one of the most known Red Cross tasks. The Red Cross makes about 1/3 of the world’s blood demand available. In numerous States the Red Cross has accomplished breakthrough achievement in the fi eld of transfusion medicine and haematology. Thereby the activities range from the recruitment of donors and the care of the donor to the professional production of high quality and safe blood products. The German Red Cross also identifi es itself with the blood donation as a humanitarian duty orientated on the general welfare to the public. The blood donation service has been part of the listed tasks in conformity with the statutes of the German Red Cross on all levels of the association since 1952. The Red Cross confesses itself to the principle of the voluntary and non-remunerated blood donation. This contribution makes a plea towards an upkeeping of this principle and therefore to avoid a change in the character of the blood donation in Germany.
